ASA WHO SOUGHT THE LORD!
“And Asa cried out to the LORD his God, and said, “LORD, it is nothing for you to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O LORD our God, for we rest on you, and in your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you!” (II Chronicles14:11).
The reason for the victory of Asa, the king of Judah was he sought the Lord. He could have sought help from any king of the neighbourhood at the time of an emergency. He could have given gold and silver to that king and availed his manpower as mercenaries. But Asa did not seek man. He resolved to seek God alone.
The meaning for the name ‘Asa’ is ‘medical doctor’. ‘Seek the Lord” was all the tonic, syrup and tablets Asahad given to his people. “The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you” (II Chronicles 15:2).
In his olden days, when David was handing over the governance to Solomon he said: “As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind” (I Chronicles 28:9). Asa had commanded all the people of his land that they should seek the Lord with all their heart and all their soul.
He commanded “Whoever would not seek the Lord God of Israel was to be put to death” (II Chronicles 15:13). When the entire nation and the entire children of Israel sought Him, He was found by them (II Chronicles 15:4). This made the enemies to rum helter-shelter. The Lord gloriously triumphed.
Dear children of God, during the times of trouble and tribulation, do not sit idle but seek God as a whole family. Seek Him as a church and as a nation. When ‘the Anti-conversion Act’ was passed in Tamil Nadu, all the Christians assembled and prayed. God heard the prayers and broke the back of that Act. Yes. When you seek God, He will battle for you.
David had the habit of seeking God in the early morning. “O God, You are my God; early will I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh longs for you in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water” (Psalm 63:1). “I sought the Lord, and He heard me and delivered me from all my fears” (Psalm 34:4) was his testimony.
Some years ago, the nation of Korea was afflicted by poverty and was in a pitiable condition. Since they sought God they have risen high above India. Asa sought God and that was the reason for God to bestow such a huge victory upon him. Dear children of God, seek God as a family. He will definitely do the miracle for you.
To meditate: “Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6)
